WritePanda ships as PandaStudio, a desktop video editor that covers the whole pipeline from capture to publish. Its tagline - "raw footage in, published video out" - describes the scope accurately: it records the footage, edits it, and pushes the finished file to YouTube, rather than being one stage in a longer chain of tools. Recording covers screen and camera with cursor handling, plus remote podcast recording where guest tracks are captured peer-to-peer rather than routed through a cloud service. Editing is transcript-driven: the app transcribes the recording and you cut by editing text, with automatic removal of filler words, repeats and silences. Finishing tools include word-synced animated captions in ten styles, thirteen motion-graphic templates with transitions, colour grading via LUTs, and auto-reframe for vertical output.

AI can draft titles, descriptions and thumbnails, and the app exports one-click to YouTube or as a GIF. The defining architectural choice is that it runs locally. Recording, transcription and editing all happen on your own computer, so footage does not leave the machine. That has a direct consequence for the AI features: PandaStudio does not resell inference. You connect your own ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Kimi account, and the vendor takes no markup - meaning no monthly AI fees and no usage caps, but also that an existing paid AI account is effectively a prerequisite for the AI-assisted parts.

Licensing follows the same subscription-free logic: $99 one-time for a lifetime licence with unlimited exports and lifetime updates, with higher tiers for multi-channel operators and studios. There is no free plan, only three trial exports before purchase. It suits editors who want to own their tooling outright and already pay for an AI provider; it is a poor fit for anyone wanting AI included in the price or a browser-based workflow. For automation-minded users, PandaStudio also exposes a CLI and an MCP server.
